Suki I'm happy to report that my little black Pomeranian Suki is doing very well. I just rescued her a month ago today and she's fit right in with my other two dogs Daisy and Pixie. They're like a little pack now. It's so cute to watch them. Current Mood: chipperCurrent Music: "Hey Jude" by The Beatles | | Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 | | 8:31 am |
Torchwood I've calmed down a little bit from the whole Torchwood fiasco. I still haven't changed my mind, though. I'm done with the fandom. I doubt I'll ever even watch the reruns of the first two seasons. Now I've heard they've okayed a fourth season, but what's the point? None for me. Wondering if I've got a LiveJournal and now a Dreamwidth journal. I'm wondering if it's worth keeping this one. The few friends I have here are also on either of the other two journals. I wish DW would let us have more free icons. Current Mood: crazyCurrent Music: "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie | | Thursday, June 18th, 2009 | | 3:28 pm |

My Brother My sister Linda just called. My brother Merv called her and told her that he had to have a pacemaker put in this Memorial day. Yikes!!
He's 49 and never had any major health problems except for his back. He and his wife were horseback riding in Indiana with a couple of friends. When they were camping, he just passed out. He said there was no warning at all, that he felt fine. Then the next thing he knew, he woke up with bruises on his face.
They took him to a small ER, but he passed out again, so they took him in an ambulance to a regular hospital. He flat-lined and they brought him back. He said it was the freakiest thing that's ever happened to him. So, after many tests the put in the pacemaker and he's back home.
Man, talk about scary. I don't talk to him often, so this was out of the blue. Just imagine if that had happened while he was driving or if he'd been alone.

Supernatural Observations I'm feeling spammity today, so bear with me. I've been watching Supernatural from the beginning. I'm not one for horror, but two good looking guys, lots of action, well, I thought I'd give it a shot. I never really got into the fanfiction or the fandom because incest is something that doesn't do much for me no matter how cute Dean and Sam are together. However, after watching this season, I'm so glad I didn't get sucked in. I'm a Mean, Mean Neighbor I'm such a meanie, or at least that's how I felt after talking to my neighbor. Two weeks ago my neighbor moved their big basketball goal from the side of their house to the front right by the edge of the street. It's near my driveway and outside my front window. So, when all the kids from the neighborhood come and play, it's like living next to a park, bouncing balls, kids yelling, lots of noise. Lots of fun for them, but not much for me. They're all playing in the street and balls are going all over the place. My dogs bark and I can't open my windows if I want any peace at all. I called the city hotline to find out what the law was about having something like that on the easement by the road. Apparently, it's illegal, which is what I thought. I hate confrontation, but I sucked it up and went next door and told her about it. I understand that she wants her kids to stay home and out of trouble, but by doing that, all the other kids come there and it's just too loud. She said the cops that drive by told her it was fine. Like I told her, they might think that, but the law says otherwise. Anyway, she said that she would move it over to their driveway. At least that will put them a little further away from me. I told her, I'm single, have no kids, and I'd like a little peace and quiet. SO, does that make me the wicked witch? Probably, but if it helps give me some escape, that's fine by me. Knitting I've been teaching myself to knit since about October of '08. I've mastered the knit and purl stitches, but combinding them, well, that's a different story. I've made several garter stitch scarves, that's all knit, no purl, but nothing more complicated. I tried learning the cable stitch, but wow, not much success there. I also did some stockinette stitch, one row of knit, one of purl, but that always curls, so that's no good for scarves. Anyway, I'm pants at trying to do much more than scarves at this point, and while I enjoy just plain knitting, I want to learn more. I went yesterday to a little local knit shop called the Knit Nook to see about maybe signing up for classes, but I don't think it'll work out. For one thing the yarn was like super expensive, about $12 to $28 a skein and they weren't even big skeins. Ouch. For those who don't knit or crochet, it takes several skeins to make anything, and that depends on how many ounces of yarn you get in that skein, and it varies quite a bit. So, if you had a 2 ounce skein, you'd likely need 3 to 4 just to make a nice scarf in knitting or crochet. Plus the time for classes, except for beginners, is always at night. The beginners class is for 2 hours on Saturdays. I don't like to drive at night and I wanted to do something during the week, not on weekends. I could sign up for private lessons, but that's $20 an hour, which could get really expensive. My sister Linda made me laugh. She said, "Well, you should learn everything in an hour, right? How hard could it be?" LOL, this is from a woman who hardly knows how to sew on a button. I told her I'd try to teach her next time she drives up from Georgia. Anyway, I guess I'll keep looking around for videoes online and checking out books from the library. Magic R.I.P. Magic passed away early this morning of a massive seizure. She hadn't been well all week and was very puny yesterday. I heard her cry and got up to find her under the bed. I had to pull the bed apart to get to her, but by that time it was too late. She was an excellent dog, very affectionate and good with people. I'll miss her. Fanfiction Recommendation I just read a great piece of fanfiction. It's called "Damage" by Xanthe and it's in the NCIS universe. Whether you're into that show or not, this is worth checking out. It's been a long time since I've actually printed out a fic to keep, but I did this one. It came in just under 250 pages of small ariel print. Ouch. But it was worth it. I spent the day reading every word, hearing the voices and feeling both the pain and the hope of the characters. Granted, this story might not be for everyone. It does deal with some tough issues, the darkest being child sexual abuse and there are some flashback scenes that were very hard to read. Still, most of the story focused on how survivors cope and on bringing the perpertrators to justice. Unlike real life, sometimes justice does prevail, yay for the good guys. Please read the warnings, but if you're up for it and want a fantastic H/C ride, check it out. Oh, and don't forget to give feedback! http://www.xanthe.org/NCIS/Damage/damage%20title.htm Current Mood: coldCurrent Music: "River" by Joni Mitchell | | Saturday, March 28th, 2009 | | 10:57 am |

Soon to be spring? It's that time of year again when I'm ready for winter to be gone and spring to get here. The winter this year has been much colder and intense than any I can remember since the 70s when we had like 20+ inches of snow. This year we had very cold temps and an ice storm that pretty much wrecked the city and state for weeks. I was lucky. I didn't lose power, but hundreds of thousands did. So, I shouldn't complain, but the cold makes my joints ache and my mood sour. I want flowers and warmer weather. Don't get me wrong. When summer gets here and it's 100 in the shade, I'll complain then, too. I want moderate, pleasant weather, those days when the wind brushes the cheek and sun kisses the skin. Would You Believe? Would you believe that my doctor put the wrong date on my blood pressure prescription? He wrote 1-6-08 instead of 1-6-09 when he gave it to me, so the pharmacy won't fill it. They say it's expired. I only have 3 pills left and so I'm hoping the doctor's office is up and running tomorrow to call it in. I mean, normally, it'd just be another hiccup, but with all the ice and power outages, who knows? The east end of town where his office is was the hardest hit by the storm. In addition, when I opened up my AT&T phone bill there was another $20 added on for some service I didn't recognize. The phone company's not open on Sundays for calls now. How convenient. Grrrr. In brighter news, it's sunny and above freezing today, so the ice is melting off the trees and streets. I drove out of my subdivision for the first time since Monday. It's clear on the main roads. Man, once again let me repeat how lucky I was not to lose power. There are trees and limbs down all over this area. How the lines stayed up, I'll never know. Bad Night Lordy, when your body decides to kick your ass, it does it in the meanest ways and usually in the middle of the night. Ever noticed that? Woke up at 1:30 am with terrible pain in my left hip. I know the orthopedic doctor said I had bursitis, but this is as bad as it's been. The new medicine has helped the arthritis in the knees, but wasn't touching this. It felt more like a muscle spasm in my lower left back, right over the left hip. Ouch. Took some extra strength Tylenol, but it was hard to go back to sleep and get any rest because I couldn't get comfortable. I can't lie on my stomach or left side. With this new pain lying on my back or on my right hurt, too. So, not much sleep. Plus, it's snowed a couple of inches and is freezing outside. I'm supposed to go out to lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. I really don't feel like scraping and shoveling snow today. I started some new blood pressure medication on Tuesday and I'm feeling like crap this morning, cold, shaky, and a bit faint. Sometimes the cure is worse than the condition until you get used to it. Sounds trite, but it's true. I always dread taking anything new either because it's going to make me feel bad or because I'll be allergic. I have a list of allergies a mile long. At any rate, I also started some new pain meds for my arthritis and I'm going to an orthopedic surgeon today. I hope he can give me something to do to make my knees and other joints feel better. Some days, like today, I get up and feel like an old lady. Everything hurts. Current Mood: crappyCurrent Music: "Hurt" by Johnny Cash | | Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 | | 9:21 pm |
Community recs? Since I want to become more active on IJ, I'd like to join more communities. Anybody got any recs for DUE SOUTH, NCIS, PROFESSIONALS, or the SENTINEL?
