Something Fun With so many people depressed by the mess with MU, or megaupload the file sharing site, and other problems, here's something I hope lightens the mood. George Takei, aka Sulu of the Original STAR TREK, has a Facebook account. He recently ran a caption contest for a famous ST picture. The winner was hilarious, so I wanted to share the fun. ( Uhura was one foxy lady and Sulu wasn't half bad, either. ) Current Mood: amused |

The Fiasco Continues Originally posted by electricdruid at The fiasco continuesACTA in a Nutshell – What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well. Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.” What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies. Essential ACTA Resources - - Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
- Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
- Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
- Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA. Via Tumblr Current Mood: aggravated |

Black March Originally posted by morgandawn at Seems I Am Not The Only One..........who feels the need to take a break from an increasingly dysfunctional relationship. Original image and campaign source: reddit. Edited to add my own thoughts (not part of the original reddit call for action): And if you do not feel like taking a total break and perhaps want just a trial separation or couple's counseling, then perhaps consider Black March Lite 2.0 = spend, but spend money on those content creators and independent retailers who came out against SOPA/PIPA. And tell them why you're buying their products in March. There are many of them. And for those who favor the more targeted boycott, you can find info here. But no matter which, you can participate and you can tailor your level of participation. We have the tools, the will and the strength to take a stand. Text of image Black March - Thursday March 1st 2012 to Saturday March 31st 2012 With the continuing campaigns for internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites like Megaupload under allegations of 'piracy' and 'conspiracy' the time has come to take a stand against music, film, and media companies' lobbyists. The only way is to hit them where it hurts. Their profit margins. March 2012 is the end of the First Quarter in economic reports world wide. Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy. Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine. Wait the four weeks to buy them in April: see a film later, etc... Holding out for just four weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media companies profits for the first quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments world wide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes. This action will give a statement of intent: "We will not tolerate the Media Industries' lobbying for legislation that will censor the internet."

MegaUpload is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This fucking sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Earlier today, the US Government shut down Megaupload. They've seized the servers which were on US soil, they've seized the domain names and blocked them, and the owners were arrested in New Zealand on behalf of the Americans. MU is gone. I have a paid account there, too. I'm beyond pissed and sad. Current Mood: angry |

Tornado Warnings in January WTF? I'm used to tornado warnings in the spring around Kentucky, but in January? WTF? The weather has been bizarre, very much a yo-yo anyway, but today I sat in the hallway with my two dogs for an hour while it poured down, the wind rocked the house, and the tornado warning blared the whole time. Luckily, I had no problems, but there were touchdowns across the city and around the area with lots of wind damage and power outages. No fun!!! I'm grateful I got through it, but it's still scary as hell. Current Mood: relieved |
